I am a member of Team 10 and work on small works rollouts. My job involves cost managing certain work streams within the team.
I studied History and Computer Science at college before joining a construction company in the rail sector, initially to implement network and software systems. I then worked for three years in cost management for rail and telecommunications before joining Longcross in 2007.
My role requires people skills, a good knowledge of the sector and QS practices, and proficiency on the relevant software. Time is always of the essence - working within small works involves tracking many jobs at once and it is essential to maintain continuity across projects that are in totally different locations.
I enjoy the variety of my job; we undertake a wide scope of works in many different places, each with its own challenges. Longcross is full of really good people and the company has a unique atmosphere and work ethic.
Since I joined Longcross I have completed a HNC in Construction and I am currently studying for a degree in Quantity Surveying through the company. I have also been trained on our accounting software, procedures, site safety and conduct amongst other things.
I took part in the Longcross ‘It’s a Knockout’ day a few years ago; we competed in teams on different (and very wet) inflatable games and we won!
I confess my outside interests centre around football; I play for a football team and a five-a-side team and I also have a season ticket at Aston Villa.
