Longcross completes the UK’s largest Sainsbury’s store

Longcross Construction has completed work on site to build Sainsbury’s largest store in the UK at Crayford in the London Borough of Bexley.

The store provides 100,000 square feet of retail space and 716 parking spaces. This was achieved by amalgamating the Homebase and Sainsbury’s stores on the site to create the new supersize store.  The design incorporates many environmental initiatives including ground source heat pumps and biomass boilers, and forms part of the redevelopment of Crayford town centre. The project was completed on time on 29th September 2010.

Longcross have commenced £60m worth of projects already for Sainsbury’s in 2010 and count them as one of their major clients.

Construction Director Lee Wareham said ‘We are very excited to be involved in this project, and it is testament to the dedication of the site team that we have received a CCS score of 36.5 well above the industry standard’.
