MedicX and Longcross working together - May 2011

Longcross health portfolio defies recession

With another addition to its expanding healthcare portfolio, Longcross reports that it has won the contract to construct a new-build, mixed-use health centre in East Cowes, Isle of Wight on behalf of MedicX, a leading developer and investor in healthcare premises in the United Kingdom.

Despite tough times in the healthcare construction sector and a period of unprecedented pressure on the NHS this development consolidates an already successful year which has seen Longcross awarded major healthcare contracts with The Imperial Healthcare Trust at St Mary’s Paddington and The Western Eye Hospital, and several major phases at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

This latest contract for MedicX follows a similar project for the property developer at Apsley, Hemel Hempstead last year.

Both sites are providing larger than usual, innovative general practice medical centres. The purpose-built facilities are designed to be able to withstand changes within the NHS over the coming years and the inevitable increases in the scope of primary healthcare delivery

High priority is given to the environmental impact of these builds, each attaining a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’. This rating allows Longcross to progressively push the boundaries when considering the environmental aspects of construction.

Longcross has put together a dedicated MedicX account team, led by Longcross Senior Projects Manager, Mark Lansbury from the Oxford office.

Mark commented:

“To have this project which will span over a year from inception to practical completion offers us stability during the current economic climate and the opportunity to continue building a solid relationship with this client.  Expanding our portfolio of new-build, unique projects can only benefit our adaptability and ability to compete as a main player on the main contractor circuit.”
