Longcross completes phase 1 at St Mary's Hospital - November 2009

Longcross has completed the first stage of this £3m, four phase project which involves refurbishment of the A & E acute assessment and admissions units. Work was completed on time, on budget and totally snag free. Seventeen patients were admitted on the day of completion, underlining the importance of on-time delivery.

Associate director Greg Layzell said,'We had to hit the ground running on this major health project. All non-work areas have to remain live and fully operational throughout the refurbishment process and our successful handover of phase I is testament to the site teams’ dedication and attention to detail.”

The four phase refurbishment is taking place on the first floor of the QEQM building and involves the amalgamation of the fracture clinic, clinical decisions unit, rapid assessment unit and Douglas observation and Joseph Toynbee wards into a new acute assessment and admissions unit.

The works involve complete strip out of the existing units, structural alterations to suit the new layout, and replacement of all services including all mechanical, electrical, medical gases, offices and patient/visitor areas.
